Example uses of the RTA:
- Setting equipment levels
- Noise testing loudspeaker phasing
- Testing loudspeaker drivers
- Analysing room acoustics
- Analysing stage acoustics
- Analysing studio acoustics
What it does
The RTA consists of two main parts, the signal generator
and the spectrum analyser.
The spectrum analyser enables the engineer to examine
the effect of loudspeaker characteristics and room
acoustics on frequency response, helping identify
frequency related problems so that the sound system
can be equalised to compensate. The analyser produces
an instantaneous graphical display of the frequencies
detected by a microphone connected to the soundcard
input.
The signal generator outputs a variety of test signals
from the PC soundcard for checking signal path continuity,
testing loudspeaker operation and setting equipment
levels. It also provides a pink noise source for
the spectrum analysis procedure.
